1. What is DBSP®?

DBSP (Data Base Scripting Pages) is a server-side scripting technology designed specifically for the exploitation of databases across the Internet. DBSP enhances and simplifies the database connection process keeping the database connections active and incorporating proven algorithms and technology in order to increase the performance, stability and availability. For more information read about DBSP features.

2. Wich databases are currently supported by DBSP?

DBSP supports Oracle®, Microsoft SQL Server®, DB2® and Interbase®. All the connections are executed in native way by communicating directly with the client of the database, so there is no need to configure any intermediate layer like ODBC. This feature allows that all the applications built in DBSP® bring a superior performance than other applications built with another data access schema.

3. Could DBSP work with Apache HTTP Sever?

No. Although apache supports ISAPI, it does not support the complete functions of ISAPI model. See the section “Aditional notes” on the module MOD_ISAPI. http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/mod/mod_isapi.html.

However, is possible that we work in a specific DBSP version for the Apache HTTP Server. If you are interested in a DBSP version for Apache, please send your request by email to support@dbsptech.com.

4. How many simultaneous users can DBSP support?

In fact, the maximum simultaneous users depends more on the Web Server you choose than the DBSP engine itself. The web server is responsible for open multiple threads for attending web requests. And each thread asks the interpretation of the requested file to the DBSP Win32 library. So the limit is in fact the maximum simultaneous threads that the web server is capable to manage.

Another important consideration is the hardware and network infrastructure. With more memory and speed processor (or multiple processors), more faster the requests are served (more requests per second can be attended).

5. Which has better performance: a master detail relationship or a combination on a single query?

Any master-detail relationship consumes more memory and time processor than a single query. Always avoid the use of master-detail relationships if possible.

However, there is an interesting feature that justifies the use of a master-detail relationship. You can establish a master-detail relationship between two tables of different databases of the same or different vendor (think in joining SQL Server® and Interbase® for example). This is possible using DBSP.

6. Is Microsoft® IIS the only web server supported in DBSP?

No. Any web server that supports the ISAPI model can be used with DBSP. Omni HTTP is one of those servers. www.omnicron.ca

7. My computer crashed and I need to reinstall the software. How do I reactivate it?

  • Install the DBSP software on your machine.
  • Start the DBSP Builder application.
  • When the License registration/activation window appears press the “Buy now” button.
  • Hold the Alt key, and press the “Reinstall” button.
  • Write your Order Number and email address (the order number is included in your purchase receipt).
